Getting a Second Dog
I've posted a little bit about this before. For those of you who have multiple dogs, what did you do when you first brought a new dog home? I know to introduce them somewhere away from our house, but I'm thinking more along the first few days at the house.
My husband and I work, so we'll have to leave two dogs that are just getting to know each other home alone for a few hours. Should they be separated at first? It would likely be a young Brittany and an Irish Setter puppy (if things work out). We've been talking about a second dog for a long time now, and found one in a foster home that we're interested in, but of course it's during a time that I can't take vacation. But I also don't want to miss out if this pup is a good fit for our home. Does anyone have any advice?
Thank you!

Re: Getting a Second Dog
We brought many 2nd dogs into our home as foster dogs and whenever we left the house, the foster went in the cage. Safer for everyone concerned.

Re: Getting a Second Dog
Thanks for the advice. The more I read up on this, the more I'm realizing I should probably crate the 2nd dog in a separate room until everyone is settled. I'm wondering if my dog will go nuts knowing another dog is in the house in a separate room ...

We had are one dog we had for a long time in the cage. when we first got the other. Then after a week or so we let them play. There fine but sometimes they have there moments like kids.

Re: Getting a Second Dog
Vito stayed in the second guest room until we were comfortable leaving him out with Bruno. We put a gate in the doorway so they could still be kind of next to each other if they wanted to.

Re: Getting a Second Dog
We separated our two dogs at first when we weren't home. Ollie was in his cage and Auto had free reign of the kitchen.
Then Ollie graduated to no more cage...then we separated them and left Auto in the LR and Ollie on the kitchen and put up a baby gate. We did this only for a short time and now they stay together in the kitchen. And they are fine.
Good Luck.

We did the same thing for a short time and it all worked out well. Best of luck
