Getting cats teeth cleaned under anesthesia... how much do you pay?
I had to take my cat to the vet the other night because she has been throwing up all over the house for the last week.
They told me that she seems OK, besides the fact that her teeth are terrible. I kind of knew this already. So I wasn't surprised when the vet started talking to me about getting her teeth cleaned.
I wanted them to tell me how much it would cost so that I knew what to expect. THey called me today with the estimate.
$580
Am I crazy to think that this is a very high amount to pay to have your cat's teeth cleaned? I get that she would have to be put under anesthesia, but I was not expecting this number. Also, he said she has stage 2 issues with her mouth but was not anticipating having to take out any teeth.
So I am just wondering if I am a complete cheapskate or if this is a normal number to pay for cleaning a cat's teeth.
Thoughts??? TIA!

We were quoted something similar. I think that was the low end - the higher end was closer to $700, depending on whether she'd have to have teeth pulled. I love them, but I don't have that kind of money to spend.

Unfortunately, I have heard these prices and worse for pet dentists. Apparently, it's one of those specialties that aren't that common but are that insanely expensive.
I'm sorry!

Re: Getting cats teeth cleaned under anesthesia... how much do you pay?
My chihuahua just had a loose tooth- took him in and it cost......
$1100!!!!!
$200 for exam and all the pre-op testing
$900 for the surgery- anesthesia, he lost 7 teeth instead of the one that was initially loose- all his front teeth between incisors on the bottom had to go- and the cleaning!
then I paid another $50 for special mouth cleaners....
next week checked my other chihuahuas teeth- and guess what happened- loose teeth, nice right? She's gonna have to wait a while until we recoop!

Re: Getting cats teeth cleaned under anesthesia... how much do you pay?
I just had my cat's teeth cleaned on Friday. $261 for everything. The estimate was for $250 to $500, depending on whether extractions were necessary.
We had our other cat's teeth cleaned with one extraction last year and the cost was $379 (I just checked the cc bill ).
I love our vet - Islip Animal Hospital on Route 111 - if you are in the area I highly recommend them.
ETA: In both cases the kitty went in in the morning at 9:30, went under general anesthetic and was home by 5. Antibiotics were included but this did not include the bloodwork which was done the week before. I think that was about $60.

Last year when my dog had his teeth cleaned we paid around $550/$600. I would shop around if they wanted to charge more.

it can be roughly 300-600 dollars depending on how many extractions need to be done and if you pets older they need to check blood work and have more intene monitoring etc.
