Getting involved in your school district/town
Does anyone know how to go about doing so? What options there are? I know many school district positions you have to be elected into...

I was very involved with the PTA in our old district. I think its a good place to start because you meet a lot of people & start to see the politics of that particular district.

Do you need to have a studen in school yet? DS is only 18 months but I interesting in the school system and their outlandish budget

I believe anyone that lives in the district can join the PTA, its clique-y it takes a while to 'get in'

NO, you do not need a child in school. I would start by attending the Board of Education meetings. in most districts, they are held about twice a month. I would look on your dsitrict's calendar or websites where the meeting dates and times should be posted.
Anyone can run for a Board of Education position - with or without children in the school. most actually don't have children in the school at the same time they serve because it can be a conflict of interest.
GOOD LUCK!
