getting medical records after DD
i am switching OBGYN and they want me to pay 0.75 a page!! she is going to call me tommorow to give me an estimate of what it will cost. How insane!! She said she is not going to send records about my pregnancy with DD who is almost 2. Only that i delivered her and info about my recent miscarriage...she said this is all the new dr will need. is this true? should i request it all?

I would want all your records sent esp if - 1) you had any complications in your pregnancy b/c it is important for your OB to know your history and especially if 2) you plan to have more children b.c there might be info in there that is important to your OB for future pregnancies.
Unfortunately, offices I believe are allowed to charge for medical records there is a cap of up to .75 cents a page or reasonable fees. HOWEVER, having said that there are loop holes and MOST doctors will NOT charge you for your personal records. Some offices just charge patients to copy records just to be a pain or to make it harder to switch doctors. Most however as I said are nice and will send you a copy for free - but I think they are entitled to charge you for your records.
How many pages is it? If it is like 100 pages then I would definitely argue it or ask your new OB which exact records they want you to get- even so I would probably ask them to wave the fee or lower it sometimes it helps to get them in person rather than have them sent to another office.

A lot of offices will make you jump through hoops and charge you if you are requesting the records for yourself. However, if your new doctors office calls for records (with a signed release from you faxed over) they should send over the records that are needed cost free. If you had a normal pregnancy there shouldn't be any need for those records but it's really up to the receiving doctor to decide what they need.
