Re: Getting Nails done??
I dont think that the acrylic powder and glue are good for you or the baby...if you get it done I would wear a mask...

Re: Getting Nails done??
Lots of chemicals you would be exposing your baby to, even if it is indirectly. Besides the fumes which may make you nauseated.
DH doesn't want me to get regular manicures anymore even - carcinogens in the polish.
If you think acrylic nails at this point in time are worth the risk, that is up to you.

Re: Getting Nails done??
I wouldn't. JMO I dont think it would be good for you to breathe in all those smells.
My doctor told me not to get my nails done with that stuff when I was preggo.

Re: Getting Nails done??
My doctor said it was okay as long as the place is well-ventilated. However, I took off my acrylic nails when I found out I was pregnant and then about 3 months later (2nd trimester), I had silk ones put on (I read that was safer than acrylic).

Re: Getting Nails done??
I wouldnt do it, especially for sanitary reasons. I remember my cousins OB after delivery fo her son told her to take them off, they were death traps of bacteria.....

Re: Getting Nails done??
I know plenty of people who had them through their pregnancy. I know people say the fumes are bad for you, but could they be any worse than what you smell in everyday life?
Now, if I had them, I would have them taken off after the baby was born, just the risk of scractching the baby would make me do that, if nothing else.

I am sure they are not worse but you cannot control what is in the atmosphere. You CAN control some of the additional and unnecessary fumes and toxins you expose your fetus to.

Agreed. But how long are you actually in there? An hour every three weeks? And to be fair, if you are going to get a manicure in the same salon, you can breathe in the same fumes.

Re: Getting Nails done??
I just wouldn't do it -- not worth it to me. Then again I've never had fake nails so I don't miss it.
Anything that goes on your nails and/or skin gets absorbed even more than just by breathing and I imagine that the chemicals they use are pretty strong.
I just wouldn't START getting fake nails now that I am pg, esp. in the first trimester....
