Getting Permits
Not sure if anyone has had something similar done but...
We have a door that leads to the backyard in our kitchen, I want to remove the door to make it a regular wall so I can get more counter and cabinet space and put sliding doors to the backyard in our dining area instead.
I'll probably need a permit to do this right? Anyone know if its hard to get one and if it will cost alot of $$? Also how long it takes to get the permit?
TIA!

Re: Getting Permits
I think it depends where you live. It is very strict where I live and we were having work done, but nothing structural - just sheetrock, ripping down old panel etc. They told me i needed a permit, which i thought was crazy. Instead, I had the construction workers not get a dumpster, and if the inspectors came buy they were going ot say they were my brother. they were there two months and no inspector ever came by.
I would start the work without it. that doesnt sound like it would take more than a week so I doubt that an inspector will come around during that time frame. Just dont use a dumpster because that will alert everyone that you are having work done.

Re: Getting Permits
It definitely depends on where you live. We needed on to install a slider, put up a fence, install CAC, switch out a regular window for a bay, sneeze on the wrong side of the street... some places have more stringent permit requirements than others.

Re: Getting Permits
If you do not need to get a permit---DO NOT GET ONE!!!!!!! Sometimes getting a permit causes more of a headache then necessary!!!! If an inspector does stop by, tell them the people doing work are family----you can have family do construction on your house without a permit---that is what we were told to do and we told our contractor to do the same if anyone stopped by! Good Luck
