Getting philosophical - What did you learn while being PG?
OK.. I'll start. Things I did not "realize" before I was PG and probably did or said.
- Words are more powerful than thoughts. Think twice about making a comment to a PG woman. Even the smallest "innocent" comment could be annoying (i.e.. comments on my ankles, how big or how little I am at any stage in my pregnancy, etc.).
- You will never know how it REALLY feels until you are PG yourself.
- Things will not always be the way you had "envisioned" it.
ETA: I will always get up in a train/subway to let a woman PG seat, regardless how advanced she is in her pregnancy.

Re: Getting philosophical - What did you learn while being PG?
I never realized how much attention preggers get
I never realized that for the most part, I wouldn't even feel my belly expanding (I always thought it would always feel tight and uncomfortable but it doesnt...yet anyway!)
I never realized that I'd be 1/2 way done and feel like my old self...not even preggo
I never realized I'd have to pee 50x a day!
I always thought I'd hate people touching my belly, but I love it
I didn't think not drinking alcohol on the weekends would be as easy at it is!
I never realized how much I'd love to feel the baby move (I worried that it would freak me out)

Re: Getting philosophical - What did you learn while being PG?
That the weight gain/bloating in the first trimester was NOTHING to worry about.
That everyone's doctor has different ideas of what's ok and what's not- so hold off on the unsolicited advice.
That I love having people touch my stomach
That the initial feelings of trepidation would give way to sheer joy and excitement
That the time would fly so quickly when you live week to week.
That the human body is a pretty amazing thing......

I know. I might not drink after the baby.
I have learned that there is too much info on the internet and you can't go by everyone's you can't "eat/drink/do this" list.
I have learned that everyone that has a baby already will tell you that the stroller/bottles/diapers they use are the best.

Re: Getting philosophical - What did you learn while being PG?
I will ALWAYS get up for a pg woman on the train!
This experience is a miracle in itself! I'm much stronger than I ever gave myself credit for during pregnancy. (Always thought I'd grow as big as a house and have no self control)
I love feeling the baby move and having DH & I read/talk to her everynight.
Never look on the internet after a Dr. tells you a possibility. (The cleft lip issue)
Everyone is going to have a comment/opinion that at some point is going to offend you.
I can't wait to do it again!

Re: Getting philosophical - What did you learn while being PG?
- how the whole process truly is a miracle
- do your own research so you are always informed. don't trust that your Dr. is going to tell you everything that you want/need to know (true in my case at least)
- don't put a lot of weight on the do's and the don'ts...enjoy yourself and "do" everything in moderation
-enjoy the first 30 weeks b/c after that the pregnancy becomes very uncomfortable
- pregnancy is different for everyone and just b/c you don't feel the way everyone else does doesn't mean you are a freak
- lastly, I learned that before I became pregnant I got a lot of my self-worth from my figure. the weight gain and my body changing was VERY difficult for me and not enjoyable....I learned that I need to work on this part of me b/c I'm not proud of it, but I still can't find the joy in being 35 lbs fatter than I was

Re: Getting philosophical - What did you learn while being PG?
To let go
You do not have control over how you feel, how your body grows, what you like to eat, how people make you feel, priorities, etc anymore
Everything changes and you have no say- you just have to go with the flow.

Re: Getting philosophical - What did you learn while being PG?
- That in a long line for the ladies room, always let the pregnant woman go ahead of you..... because no one did this for me!!!
- That I could grow so attached to someone I have never set eyes on... and that I would enjoy the movement so much that it makes me laugh every single time.
- That pregnancy would be this difficult and taxing on your body.
- That my DH would be so amazing through the whole thing.
- That I would have such a hard time with my body changing, as Alicia said, I never realized how much that would affect me EVERY SINGLE DAY........and how much I would miss the old me....
