Getting pregnant after an ectopic pregnancy?
I had my 2nd MC early March and it was an ectopic pregnancy that I passed on my own. I was approx. 3 weeks pregnant so it was early. The 1st MC I had was in early Jan, I was 8 weeks pregnant, and the D&C confirmed that it was due to chromosomal abnormalities. Both times I actually got pg on my own which was a big surprise since I was about to start IUI cycles both times. I met with my RE and he wants to do an HSG before starting an treatment to make sure the tube isn't damaged. If all is ok then we will start IUI with Femara. He says the injectables are now too risky. He said that my chance of having an ectopic is greater now that I have had an ectopic so IVF is really our BEST option. I can't afford IVF out of pocket and GHI will cover 75% if I do 6 IUIs 1st. Hopefully I will have a successful, healthy pregnancy with IUI. Has anyone had an experience with ectopic pregnancy? **Sorry for the long post!

Re: Getting pregnant after an ectopic pregnancy?
I don't have experience with an ectopic but I wouldn't move to IVF especially since you have been able to get pregnant on your own twice (I am sorry about your losses). I would try IUI first if anything and then see what happens. Good luck!!!!

No experience of my own but my friend had an ectopic and got pg naturally within a few months. She had a healthy pregnancy and baby.

Getting pregnant after an ectopic pregnancy?
I don't have any experience with ivf but I did have an ectopic pregnancy. It was after I already had 2 dc, and I had to have surgery and lost a tube. It was very scary. I went to an RE who did an HSG, and I learned that I was only ovulating from the side that no longer had a tube. Despite that, I went on to get pregnant naturally 2 more times. Good luck!

I wonder if your doctor could write something to appeal the insurance restrictions. If IUIs are going to put you at significant risk of a life-threatening mishap, then perhaps they will jump to IVF. I would do some digging of I were you. GL

This. I have heard of ladies skipping the 6 required IUI requirement because the doctor wrote in to bypass the insurance restrictions.

This was me, but I lost my tube bc of the ectopic.
I tried 3 cycles of IVF after my ectopic and none took. I thought it was the logical next step since it bypassed my tube. It turns out I had a host of autoimmune issues. I got pregnant though, with a timed intercourse/medicated cycle. I was petrified to try bc I knew I was more at risk for another ectopic, but I just want you to know it's totally possible still to get pregnant ... I'm 30 weeks.

Getting pregnant after an ectopic pregnancy?
Like previous poster suggested - your Dr can contact the insurance company and tell them that it's his medical opinion that IUI's will be a waste and skip right to IVF. My insurance company (Aetna) required 6 IUI's as well and after my 3rd fail IUI my Dr wrote them a very convincing letter and we moved onto IVF.
IVF #1 resulted in an ectopic pregnancy. Even though you bypass the tubes with IVF you are still at high risk for having an ectopic pregnancy.

Re: Getting pregnant after an ectopic pregnancy?
I have no experience with ectopics or m/c, but my son is the product of a clomid / IUI success on the first try.
So I wouldnt jump to IVF just yet

Re: Getting pregnant after an ectopic pregnancy?
Yes I had an ectopic last summer. I was 5.5 weeks pregnant, in pain on my side and a mass was seen on a sonogram. I had surgery and he saved my tube. I however needed my other tube out, long story but it was blocked for years and looked terrible.
I was petrified to try again. I was so scared there would be scar tissue in my tube bc he sliced it in order to get the tissue out. I really considered IVF for awhile but my dr urged me to try naturally that I had a good chance to conceive naturally. I also have zero IVF coverage so that helped me decide to keep trying naturally. If for some reason I had another ectopic that needed surgery he would remove the remaining tube and then of course we would do IVF. I was convinced I would have another ectopic. Well I was wrong!
I had the HSG 2 months post surgery and all looked good in my ectopic tube. Got pregnant right after that, it was a chemical. Got pregnant again 2 months later, it was ruled as a possible ectopic (numbers were not rising properly and started to drop) and I got the MTX shot to be safe so I didn't rupture. We then had to take a break for 3 months but am now pregnant again and the baby made it to the right place! So relieved!
Anyway my problem is not getting pregnant, its just making it to the right place and/or sticking.
Do the meds make it risky to have another ectopic for some reason? I am not aware of that. Ask your dr for statistics of what the chances are for you to have another ectopic especially given his experience with the meds and IUI. I am all about the numbers.

Also side note - I had a D&C before I had my daughter and I sware it messed up my tubes. I am not sure what went wrong but something did ugh.
