Getting rid of spyware?
My Dad's computer is loaded with spware and I cannot get rid of it. Popups come up even when he is not on the computer. I installed and ran lavasoft adaware and that didn't help one bit. Also ran a virus scan and there are no virus'. Does anyone know of any other software that can help us get rid of these pop ups and spyware on his machine. We can get a pop up blocker but that won't solve the problem of removing this crap from the computer. Thanks!

Re: Getting rid of spyware?
IT worked pretty good, but my pop up detector is still showing pop ups( though blocked thankfully), BUT now every ten minutes I get a microsoft warning that spyware is trying to be installed!
I dont know HOW to get this PC free of all this.
Its fairly new and it runs at SNAIL SPEED.

Re: Getting rid of spyware?
I had the people at Dell tell me that in order to completely rid the computer of spyware (and any other potential viruses that my computer has), I'd have to re-install windows. This would mean losing all my files and data - so I planned to install another hard drive, so I could export the files there, and then re-install windows on the C drive.
Can I avoid all of this through the Microsoft site?
Please?

theres only one problem with this method, if the spyware has infected one of you files, when you move that file to a new hard drive you would be moving the spyware as well. Dells solution for pretty much everything is to reformat the hard drive. I had a person call up once said they were having a problem connecting to the internet and called dell they were told to reformat the hd as well
