Getting student loans that aren't part of a financial aid package?
A family member asked me about this. Her son is going to nursing school and though his financial aid package covers tuition, he needs more money for books and living expenses and wants to take out a student loan for it.
What's the best way to do this? Are private lenders the only option? Is there a certain type to look for?

I would try private banks. Does any member of the fam belong to a credit union? They usually have great rates.

He should talk to the fin. aid advisor at the School.
We have one specifically in our office for our Dental students who need additional loans and she works with each one specifically on their needs/wants and gets them the best loans.
I think Fannie May is one area for such loans.
