Getting to Disney
Flying is out of the question. I'm a big crybaby when it comes to flying, soooo, we're booked on Amtrak Autotrain going south and plan to drive back. Damn "Snowbirds" make the Amtrak fares double coming north.
Anyhooo, if you've done the drive from FL to NY can you recommend a place around the halfway-mark to spend the night? It just has to be safe and clean.
(We may be spending a couple of days at my friend's townhouse in Hilton Head, but we're not sure yet.)
TIA!

Re: Getting to Disney
I recommend just driving it through, no stopping. DH and I do that drive once (sometimes twice) a year and we never stop overnight. We leave between 12am and 2am and it takes us 17 1/2 hrs from nassau, LI to west palm beach, FL. You will be going from Orlando, so about 2 hrs or so closer.
We just did the drive over christmas and made it under 17 hrs. It's really not that bad, we split up the driving (he sleeps when i drive and i sleep when he drives)... just another option.

Re: Getting to Disney
Thanks ladies.
Karen, we're looking to stop in somewhere in VA since we're coming back.
Jess - I wouldn't mind driving straight through, I've done it many times (to and from WI), *but* there's no way my 2 and 4 year olds would go for it.

Re: Getting to Disney
my parents stop in Ashland, VA on their trips to/from FL. They stay at The Sleep Inn in Ashland they say its clean, cheap, safe and easy on/off 95.
They like to get there in time for dinner and eat here The Iron Horse and keep telling us we should drive drive down too because Aidan would love the railroad that goes through the town.
I get the impression its a sleepy little town with nothing much else to do but eat and spend the night, but I'm not entirely sure.
