Getting your gums scraped - gum surgery
What kind of dentist does this?
Has anyone had it done?
I need it done and I have been putting it off. I am scared

I got a great cleaning by one many years ago, under the gums ahd to be done in four visits, I loved it!

my DH had this done by his regular dentist.
he said ask for novacaine and u wont feel anything.
he said it might take a couple of visits to get it all done

yes I love cleanings, even that one.
I can't remember what they called it... it did not involve surgery, but it was a much deeper cleaning than my regular dentist would do. He sent me there specially for that. A quarter of the mouth is done at at a time.
ETA: this might be it I only had phase 1, maybe you need phase 2 as well?

It's called scaling and root planing. We usually divide the mouth into 4 quadrants and get you numb for each visit. My patients are normally sore after the procedure but nothing a Motrin can't handle. If you need anymore info you can FM. Good Luck

ive had it done going next monday for other side cleaning and minor gum surgery.. going to a periodontist...... hurts a little after but worth it..

I've had the scaling & root planing done recently. I only got a topical anethesia in the beginning & I was fine, but the offered xylacaine (sp?) injection to me also. I was not sore really, but tense after. It took my mouth a few hours to relax after the procedure, but nothing horrible. I did it over 4 visits & follow-up with regular cleanings every 3 months as maintenance.

I had scaling done by my regular dentist. He gave me novocaine, didn't hurt at all. My mouth was a little sore after it wore off, but nothing unbearable.
