giant scallions? (possibly a dumb question)
i'm making a dish tonight that calls for 2 scallions. the grocery store only had giant ones. so would 1 big one equal 2 small ones? or (pardon my ignorance) are scallions just that big?
TIA

Like how big? Most scallions are about the width of a finger.
Personally I LOVE scallions so I'd throw in a little extra anyway.
ETA: oooh, did you get a leek, maybe?

Re: giant scallions? (possibly a dumb question)
it has that oniony/scalliony smell to it... do leeks smell like that?
it's bigger than 1 finger...
can i use a leek instead of scallions? (so i dont have to go to a different store)

yes, leeks are in the onion family.
they are delicious, though I think you may have to cook them a little longer, slice them thinner.
you can make an AWESOME potato leek soup with those.
soup is about the ONLY think I miss about winter.
anywho, most likely substituting a leek for a scallion in your recipe (if it calls for cooking them anyway) shouldn't be too bad.
