Gift-Giving When You'll Be Away for the Holidays
OK - tonight is the first night of Chanukah and we're celebrating it at my mom's. We are flying up to NY tomorrow morning (yay) and will be up for the rest of Chanukah. I wasn't planning on bringing gifts up with me to give to DH when we were up there. I was planning on giving him two big gifts tonight and then saving the rest for when we came back home - even though it's not Chanukah then anymore. It would be nice if I COULD bring some stuff up, but suitcase space is at a premium! So, this morning he tells me that he's planning on giving me some things in NY so I can have Chanukah gifts up there too and I have more things to open on Christmas when we celebrate with his family. I feel so guilty now. He said to me that just because he wants to do his gifts that way doesn't mean I need to and I shouldn't feel guilty, but I do I feel like I can't even bring gifts up for him now - the most "portable" gift I have for him is an iPOD - but wanted to give that to him tonight, so he'd have that for the plane ride. I guess I could get him a few things up there, but have no idea what to get!
I know in the big picture, this is not a biggie, but I feel bad...
Do you transport gifts? Do you buy there? Do you just celebrate when you get home?
Thanks!

What about an itunes gift card or arm band as a gift for when you are up here? Or do you have time to buy him something up here to give to him that won't break the bank, like go to Kohl's or something? I'll be honest, I've never had to travel with gifts, so I can't help you there.

Yeah - I was thinking of bringing up some of the accessories I bought to go along with the iPOD, but ultimiately, iit will depend on space. Thanks.

We split it up. I gave DH his "big" gift today since it was wayyy too big to travel with. I am bringing a few small things so he still has something to open Christmas morning.

Re: Gift-Giving When You'll Be Away for the Holidays
We were discussing this and still haven't decided what to do. We're traveling right after work Tuesday night, and won't be back home until Saturday or Sunday (still up in the air). We felt like Monday night was too early to celebrate Christmas, and some things I want to give privately, I really like the idea of us having our first married & living together christmas opening all our presents to each other at our first big tree....but Sunday seems really long to wait!
Also complicated by the fact that DH and I wrapped presents today and now they're all under the tree just tempting us
I don't know what we will do....we're driving so technically we could bring all the presents, I just don't want to....
I would love to hear what others do!
