Gift help needed desperately from the mommies!

So I am so out of the loop on buying gifts for kids since i have none yet! I need to buy a gift for a 3 year old boy and for a five year old boy. Any suggestions greatly appreciated - even as to generally what they like. Also, if any good stuff at pottery barn kids - i have a family member that works there.

How about an art desk...

I bought a (little tikes one..?) for my 2 yr old cousin (boy) and my friend 2 yr old daughter....Its pretty big...and they can use it up to a decent age....

i have a little girl, but my friends son is 3 and he loves anything with trains, how about a crayola set, or there is a cool toy called "aquadoodle", its a large mat and they can draw on it with sort of a water pen, its fun. how about playdoh, kids LOVE playdoh. or legos, a lego set is always good.
