Gift ideas for downstairs neighbors before my baby arrives?

I live in a NYC apartment building. I would like to give my neighbors who live below me a small gift before the baby arrives (I am at 37 weeks) – sort of a “thank you in advance for putting up with all the extra noise that we will be making with visitors, the late night feedings, etc.”

Has anyone else done this? I have never met the neighbors – they moved in about 2 months ago. Any suggestions on how I would word the note? Also any gift ideas? I will probably default to flowers or a cookie basket since I have never met them.

Since they just moved in, I would suggest more of a Welcome present that should guard against any complaints for the future. We just had neighbors move in below us (slightly different - garden apts so we're much 'cozier' than in a building). Anyway, we got them a Take Out Menu Organizer and picked up menus from some of our favorite places in the neighborhood, sort of a starter kit for them.

If you do something like that, you make it more about them than about you guys and the baby, which is a little better IMO.

I agree, i wouldnr send a card that says...thanks for putting up with my crying baby...heheh but if you just get them a welcome gift im sure they will be cooperative...LOL

I guess because I have never seen them, I wanted to warn them that I was preggers.
