Gift Registry for a b.day

Ava just received an invitation for a birthday party and it had a gift registry card for TRU attached to the invitation. I never saw this before for a birthday party.....is this the new thing and I am just totally clueless. I guess it makes things easiar because you know exactly what the kid wants but there is also a part of me that has mixed feelings about it. So what do you all think?

I kinda think its tacky but in the same sense, people probably thought that when bridal/baby registries first came out.

I understand that people think it is easier, but to me it is tacky. No one should expect a gift and that seems like they do, KWIM?

ITA!

If I received that my first thought would be tacky, but as I was shopping I would be so grateful for it! I think in another 5 or so years it will be more common.

Re: Gift Registry for a b.day

my gut reaction was tacky, but the more I think about it - is it possibly related to all of the recalls and she wants to make sure people buy "safe" toys?
