Re: Girls trip to New Orleans....
I LOVE New Orleans. We went for a friend's 30th birthday and opted to rent a house (VRBO) which was cheaper than hotel rooms and nicer IMO. We stayed in the Marigny-Bywater District which was walking distance to the French Quarter and Frenchmen Street (lots of live music, art, good food). We also did a swamp tour which was INCREDIBLE and a must do. There's so many good places to eat and the bars are fantastic. It really is a sh!t show if you walk Bourbon Street at night but if you like to drink and dance- do it. We had a BLAST. We also went to Cafe Du Monde (overrated!) and Jean Lafitte's- one of the oldest bars.
This was our house- I love the houses down there!

Girls trip to New Orleans....
One of my favorite vacations of all time, what i remember of it anyway : ). We rented a house in the Garden District but right on a trolley path. It was great. We just jumped on the trolley to go everywhere. Bourbon Street was something I have never experienced and it was fabulous. People drinking all day and night. Tons of great clubs and music and just people watching was entertainment in itself. The riverwalk was nice too for a change of pace and there are casinos in the hotels there. We ate at Emerils and the Court of Two Sisters, both were great. I will say that though all the food was terrific and can be found in the weirdest spots. We ate most of our meals and a dive on the corner of the street we had a house on and it was amazing and we had the best po boy ever in a book store that served food on the second level. Explore and you'll find some great things!

Girls trip to New Orleans....
I went there on business a few years ago when I worked in non-profit, so I did not get to do much sightseeing. We had dinner at Tableau one night and it was delicious.

Re: Girls trip to New Orleans....
Although the house thing looks so cool, I’ve only stayed at the hotels, which were all nice and not too $$$.
Agree that the best food I’ve had there was literally found in a hole in the wall place that was packed even for lunch. Other places that were great we’re GW Fins and I really liked Cafe DuMonde (just go really early as it gets crowded). Emerils place was good there (not mind blowing, but very good). For bars, the dueling piano place was a blast but again, fills up really fast. The ghost tours were really fun and unique. I’m not that huge of a ghost fanatic... but it was cool.
Only thing I have to add is to really be careful. A very nice, mild mannered (and super intelligent) coworker of mine was there for a guys party and went to an ATM across the street from a bar to get some more cash in the early evening. He was attacked and they bashed his skull in with a bat. He survived and is ok... but don’t ever leave a group. This guy is street wise and lives and works in a really crappy part of NYC... so it’s not for lack of his street smarts.

Yes this. I was there for work and we were in a cab one night and the driver dropped us where we were going and said- don't walk in that direction- pointing to the left of where we were going - for more than 2 blocks. there are some very sketchy/dangerous areas in New Orleans.

I do agree with this as well. We were walking distance to the Quarter and Bourbon street, but we walked over when it was light out and opted for a cab at the end of the night. Though I feel like this is true for any place where you're unfamiliar with the area and especially when you are drinking.

Re: Girls trip to New Orleans....
8 of us went here 2 yrs ago. We had such a blast. We stayed at a hotel that was a block over from Bourbon Street. They had a cute courtyard that we would hang out in until everyone was ready to go out. Or go back to after a day or night out. I'd definitely stay here again when I make it back. We also did brunch at Court of Two Sisters. Delicious! One day we walked to The French Quarters and pretty much drank along the way..lol This post is making me want to go back!
Here is the website to the hotel we stayed at Dauphine Orleans Hotel
