Re: Girls who have run half marathons, what do you think of this
I never trained for a half marathon, just worked my way up to it. So for 26 miles I think I started my long runs at 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 16, 10, 18, 13, 20, 13, 13, 23, 11, 5, Race day!! I do however think that program is fine....it gives you a lot of training weeks...very conservative...which can be good. I trained for the marathon in 17 weeks...so this should keep you in good shape and healthy!
My thoughts: 1. You need at least one day of rest...IMO...take one day totally off. 2. I would add more core work and upper body strength training. 3. You should figure out your pacing...those long weekend runs need to be either at your comfortable pace (can have a conversation) or race pace (not comfortable) or a combination of both (intervals). Start practicing slowing your pace so you can get the higher mileage in. This I learned quickly...so important. 4. The long runs really should be outside on different terrains and routes. Helps get your body used to hills, wind, rain, etc. Outside is a world of difference than the mill. Also, do them early since the race will be early in the Am, practice eating what you want to on race day, and managing your water or gatoreade consumption. 5. I ran 3x a week with core and upper body 2x cross train with lower body work and 1x strength total body and swimming. 6. On weekday runs...don't worry so much about miles run more for time..like 50 minutes or an hour...depending on your base.
This is all I can think of now...let me know if you have any questions.
GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN!!!!
