Girls who have run marathons?
Did you lose weight?
I have been slowly gaining, not sure why but not sure if I should be worried because maybe it will come off in the long run??
I have just been so hungry and have fallen off the wagon a bit here and there but I am running 20 miles a week, doesnt that count for anything?!?!

Re: Girls who have run marathons?
I dont run marathons but jogging has changed my body, my clothes are loose but have not lost that much lbs. But I look and feel great and thats what counts... right? Keep up the good work.. 20 miles is way better then no miles!!

Re: Girls who have run marathons?
nope, i think i've gained a few pounds during each training cycle. mainly b/c i'm hungry all the time! whatever i gained came off quite quickly after i dropped my mileage back down again.

Re: Girls who have run marathons?
No, I think I pretty much maintained my weight when I was training. I was so hungry (especially after longer training runs) that I definitely ate enough to make up for all the running.
20 miles a week is awesome ...good luck with your training!

Re: Girls who have run marathons?
I don't run marathons, but I run the same weekly mileage as you and I haven't lost any weight either! I think I put on some muscle through weight training so the scale actually went up over the past couple of months... even though my clothes fit the same. I guess I'm eating too much, I think I eat pretty healthy for the most part, I don't know! I feel like with all the running & sweating I do I should be burning off some fat & wearing smaller clothes but it doesn't seem to be happening.

Re: Girls who have run marathons?
I'm right there with you...I'm upto double digit long runs and still no change.
I had a physical last year and my GP couldn't understand how I could run 30 miles a week and be the weight I am (gee thanks). SHe had me tested for all different things and nothing - just eat-too-much syndrome
everything I have read said that you won't lose weight during marathon training - since you need to eat to keep training.

Re: Girls who have run marathons?
A few yrs ago I trained for a half marathon.
I was eventually running 4-5 miles 4 days a week & a long run on the weekend. Which mean usually about 25 miles + a week. I ate healthy too while training and I lost about 20 pounds. I guess it depends on what shape you were in prior. If you are at a healthy weight then you probably won't be losing.
I needed to lose a good 20 lbs. and def had the extra weight on me.

Re: Girls who have run marathons?
You do not lose weight training for a marathon!!
I am not a regular marathoner...I have run 2 thus far but most people either maintain or even gain a few. The exception lies if you have a good amount of weight to lose and just started a running regimine. In that scenario you will slim down.

i follow a lot of erin huggins' advice and she recently posted this blog
there's a part in there about running effecting your adrenals

Re: Girls who have run marathons?
No! I'm in my third month of training for NYC and have not lost a pound (may have even gained 1 or 2)! It's because I eat more of everything as well as more carbs around the harder workouts, and say yes to ice cream alot more when I'm training!
However, my last marathon was Chicago and I def lost weight the last month- I was so slim the last month and on marathon day. I think because of the 18-20 mile long runs in the summer heat. The weight didn't stay off for long though!

Re: Girls who have run marathons?
I am on week 3 of my training and I haven't lost any weight. But, I am actually running LESS than I was before I started training. Also, the training consists of LSD runs and I did a lot of HIIT. So I'm running less and slower. Maybe that's why weightloss doesn't happen so easily.

Every time I take off from running 2-4 weeks, I lose weight. Crazy! I feel like my body hold the weight and the water in order to get through the workouts!
