Gitting rid of old paint cans?

How do I go about getting rid of old paint cans & spray paint bottles? We are cleaning out our basement for the big move but have not idea what we should do with these.

TIA!

Too bad school is out because I heard a tip to donate old paint cans to school's drama dept.'s so they can paint their sets for drama productions

Most towns have a drop off site where you can drop off paint and hazardous household cleaners. Can you call your town?

As for the half gallon of latex, you can just dry them out... leave them in a garage uncovered for a week or so until the paint solidifies. They also sell packets of stuff you can pour into a paint can to instantly solidify it. Some towns allow you to leave dried up latex paint cans by the curb. Not aerosols though.

The old owner left us so much paint - mostly oil based. My town has a drop off location to bring oil based paint, used oil (car).

Latex paint you need to dry out and then put with your regular trash - HD sells stuff to help dry up paint - buy sand or kitty litter also works

It depends on your township. We are not allowed to trash old paint cans. We did not know and we got a "Note" on our door telling us we were not allowed to... or beware of fines! You can call your township and ask them where the closest recycle center is for your old aint.
