Giving Water to a 3 month old

I could kick myself, I wanted to call my ped yesterday and it totally slipped my mindChat Icon

We are flying to Florida tomorrow, DS is 3 months old, he has never had anything but formula. I was wondering if I could give him water on the plane. The flight is fairly short, he will probably eat on take off, but not on landing...so would water be ok?

My dad keeps telling me it is fine, b/c by his age, my sister and I were drinking juice alreadyChat Icon

Those of you who have flown with your kids, what have you given?

An ounce would probably be good. Just be careful of 2 things since you've never given DC water: first, it's a lot thinner than formula so watch that DC doesn't get too much at a time & choke and second, water is a stool loosener so watch for more liquidy diapers.

And if they get too much water, it makes their potassium levels unbalanced or something like that. I give Emma an ounce when she hasn't pooped. I probably wouldn't give him more than that at a time. I did try to get her to drink some of the water I put in the bottles for the formula when we were taking off, but she was out cold and wanted nothing to do with it. You are leaving tomorrow right? I gave Jacob about an ounce of water at 2 months. I only gave it to him when he was constipated.

I gave our little one water when he was 3 months old. An ounce twice a day when he was costipated.
As long as it doesn't replace a meal, it's ok to give water...per his doctor.

Re: Giving Water to a 3 month old

Noah gets lots of water. At first it was for his constipation ( started at like 6 days old) and it was up to 2 oz's a day per my ped's instructions...

That seeemed too much, he got runny...so we let up.

Now I mix 1/2 oz of water with his gripe water and that can be up to 3 times a day.

So he gets water about 5 days a week.

Re: Giving Water to a 3 month old

Just know that they eat a lot more on planes then they normally would. So even though its a short flight, he may be ready for some more formula upon landing. Make sure to bring more than what he would usually eat. I was shocked at how much DD eats on planes.

Have a great trip and don't let you SIL drive you nuttyChat Icon
