Glucose Tolerance Test
I have this test on 1/2/07 at 8:45 am. Am I supposed to fast before the test? I forgot to ask the doctor. Thanks

I guess I want to know that if my test is scheduled for so early in the morning, should I make sure that I DO eat beforehand? Or does it not matter? Thanks

Re: Glucose Tolerance Test
I would def. try to eat something before you drink the glucola just because it could upset your stomach otherwise. Even if it's something small.

Re: Glucose Tolerance Test
My doctor said it was fine to eat, but that I should not have anything sugary for breakfast.
Mine is the day after Christmas at 10 am- am wondering if I should ease off the Christmas cookies. I will have something small to eat before I go.

Re: Glucose Tolerance Test
I was told not to eat or drink anything after midnight the night before. Also 3 days before to limit carbs and sweets.
I failed the 1hour and passed the 3 hour.
Good luck!

Re: Glucose Tolerance Test
Yes you are supposed to fast. That is the point of the test. Anything that you eat at all can alter the results and have you taking the 3 hour test..something you want to avoid at all costs!

Re: Glucose Tolerance Test
My doctor told me no food two hours before the test time and one hour before the test time to drink the bottle (entire thing) within 5 minutes.
So: 1:30 no more foood 2:30 drink bottle 3:30 test.

This is exactly what my doctor said as well. I took an early glucose test and passed with what they said were great numbers

Re: Glucose Tolerance Test
I was not told to fast. My test was also 5:30 at night, so I never could have fasted all day. Not to mention that it was Halloween week when I took the test, so I had way too much sugar in my system. But I passed. I think it's more about the way your body breaks down the sugar than anything else. I'm not saying you should go out and eat a ton of candy the day of the test (like me ) but if the doctor didn't mention anything about fasting you should be allowed to eat.
