Godmother/Godfather Issue-Is your mom pressuring you in any way?

My mom is getting involved in who she thinks we should pick as godparents and it is so frustrating!!

The baby isnt even here yet!!! And its not an easy decision to begin with.

And I thought drama ended when the wedding day was over!!Chat Icon

Not yet, but I am forseeing some challenges from DH's mom. We know who we want as the Godfather, but can't decide on Godmother. It also happens that DH's brother's wife is PG now, due Jan 11 (4 mos b4 me) and I kinda want to wait and see who they pick.

I would say "We will make the decision and ask the godparents then let you know" or "Thank you for your input but we will decide what we think is best for our baby". and leave it at that. Don't even bring it up at all or change the subject if she speaks about it.

You need to do what is right for your baby, not for her.

I haven't gotten any pressure from my parents, but I know my best friend received pressure from her mother AND MIL that both of these old school Italian ladies were in agreement that they should choose their Matron of Honor and Best Man (my friend's sister and her DH's brother). Not to cause a war, she did listen to the mothers and was part happy because she did want her sister as godmother but not necessarily her BIL for godfather.

I think sometimes parents get involved in an effort to convince you to choose family members because they know that friendships fade. But sometimes family members drift too, it's just that it takes a lot for a mom to realize it.
