Going For 1st Appt with Gyno about getting pregnant....
Are there any questions I should ask besides getting prenatal vitamins??

both parents have to be carriers, so if you get the bloodwork done and aren't a carrier for anything, then DH doesn't have to be tested

I did this last week. My doctor said it's not necessary to do anything aside from take prenatal vitamins until I get pregnant.
No blood test or anything........ He said we will go down that road once I get a BFP.

I went on Tuesday and I got a ton of blood work done but I also have a history of VERY irregular cycles so that could be why.

AT my pre- pregnancy appointment we discussed making sure I am taking a multi vitamin with enough vitamin c and genetic testing.
There are some genetic disabiilties (such as fragile x, cystic fibrosis and spinal muscular atrophy for example) that you or your husband can be carriers for and a blood test will screen you to see if you are a carrier---if you are a carrier for any of these then your DH will be tested to see if he is a carrier or not.
From there you will meet with a genetic counselor to discuss exactly what all your blood work means and god forbid you and your DH are both a carrier for the same genetic disorder then they will discuss the percentage of having a child with that disorder. Also at the genetic counselor they will go over you family history and ethnicity to see about anything else.

At my appointment, I told the Dr. we were going to start trying soon, so he told me some information about my cycle and what time during the cycle is the time to conceive and he gave me a prescription for prenatals. Then he was sweet and said that when he sees me again, he hopes I'll be pregnant!

Hmm that's really up to you. I was honestly surprised that all I did at my appointment was sit in his office and chat about TTC. If I didn't come in with a laundry list of questions, the appointment would not have taken more than 5 minutes! (because of my questions- it took more like 10 or 15  )
I think you should ask for what you feel comfortable with. Since this is my first time going down the TTC road, I just don't know what's right.....
My doctor literally said I can smoke and use drugs up until my BFP  He was joking of course......... but just an example of how relaxed he is. Also, he said I should CALL if I do not have regular cycles after 3 months off BCP.
