Going from pre-made formula to powder

I think I've created a monster. Early on I switched from powder Similiac to the pre-made formula because I felt like the thicker consistency kept him fuller. In hindsight he was probably just going through a growth spurt and needed more formula. But as a new mom I panicked.

Now that he's on 7 oz bottles it's costing a small fortune to buy the pre-made and I'd like to transition back to powder. Am I crazy for thinking I can?

Anyone have success with this?

Re: Going from pre-made formula to powder

I always thought that RTF was thicker than powder and i addressed to this doc ( esp cause my DD had reflux probs) and he told me, they are exactly the same and its all about measuring.

So, Yes go ahead and use the powder, it shouldnt make a difference.
RTF is def more expensive and can also go bad a lot quicker when opened.

RTF/ Powder = exactly the same just made easier in the RTF kind.

Re: Going from pre-made formula to powder

How long has he been on the ready made formula?

With Deb they changed her formula from the ready made to a formula that was only available in powder and she did not like it at all!! She would drink like an ounce and that was it. I had to call the doctor and tell them that they had to change it to something that was only available in ready made.

Do you belong to BJ's or Costco, I found that it was a little cheaper to buy it in bulk than individual in a supermarket. Good Luck!

Re: Going from pre-made formula to powder

We tried the switch once, they might be the same but for the 1 week we tried the powder my DS who had been sleeping through the night woke up each night sometimes more than once (which he didn’t even do as a NB) We decided sleep and convenience was worth the extra money.

Re: Going from pre-made formula to powder

My last 2 children I would always use the already made formula then switched to powder, luckily I never had a problem. Also with my 1st son I started with powder and then switched to already made and again no problem.

I say give it a try Chat Icon

Thanks ladies!
I think I'm going to introduce it in the morning and see how he does on it.

Re: Going from pre-made formula to powder

I switched from RTF to powder about 2 months ago. My son transitioned very well. He has actually had a LOT less problems since the change. Chat Icon
