Going rate for reading tutor- grades k-5

If you live in Nassau/Suffolk, would you mind sharing how much you pay for a tutor at the elementary grade level?
Please also specify if the tutor has years of experience. Thanks.

My son is a senior in Stuyvesant high school and has been tutoring elementary school kids for 2 years. He started charging $25 an hour and is now charging $30.

We just hired one. $125 an hour. She’s a teacher at DD’s school.

OMG! That's amazing how much tutors cost!

No wonder the high-income districts have much better test scores than the low-income ones. The kids aren't any smarter -- their parents can afford tutors!

100%. We only did it because DD is having trouble with her writing skills, which in turn gives her anxiety about school. She’s still young and I don’t want her hating school so she needs a confidence boost. A very expensive confidence boost.

We are so grateful we could afford a tutor. The teachers in our district seem more and more unwilling to offer extra help.

But why would they stay for free when they can charge us instead?

We pay $100 an hour for a math tutor which is cheap compared to what I know some others pay in my area.

And yes, the high paying districts only have high scores because the parents can afford to pay for extra help when their students need it, and even when they don't. They also pay for college advisors, private coaches for athletics and on and on. It's actually starting to make me somewhat sick because the competition in every aspect of life is so fierce for these kids that they can't even just go to high school and have fun anymore. Mental health issues amongst teens are out of control because of it.

I guess it depends on the tutor you are looking for. I am certified and teach the Wilson Reading Program. I started charging $50 an hour, but now up to $75.
