Going to Washington, DC in a few weeks and need some ideas on how to get there (This IS parenting related)
Okay, on Saturday April 12 we have a wedding that DH and I are going to (already responded yes). DS will be staying overnight with MIL.
On Sunday April 13 is my best friend's daughter's baptism in Fairfax, VA. I want to go as she has not seen DS and I have not seen her DD (and my friend is 5 mos PG w/ DS). Also her mom (who is like a 2nd mom to me) is very ill and I really want to see her.
Now, which would you do, with an 11 month old?
I don't mind driving, but DH does. But afraid flying would mean more $$ as if we fly we need to rent a car in addition to staying in a hotel.
TIA!
My concern w/ driving is we'd need to leave at the crack of dawn, after a wedding (we're not big drinkers so no worries of hangover) and we'd be leaving from MIL's which is in Lake Grove.

We just did the same trip twice since December, once flying and once driving, and honestly, I felt it was easier to drive. When we flew, we went from Islip to BWI, rented a car, and drove to Burke (right outside of Fairfax)...it was a long and exhausting trip with a 9 month old....driving was only 5.5 hours (with stops) because we left at 5am on the way there, and left after DC morning traffic on the way home...next time, we will probably drive again since the baby is great in the car and we could bring all of our stuff easily

i used to drive from northern VA to LI once a month with 3 kids alone . I started driving it when my DD was 6wks old. if you leave early its not too bad.

I live in Arlington right next to Fairfax...it takes me 4 and a half hours to get to long island. Not a bad drive at all!

I would drive. About 5 hours or so. Not bad at all and you have your car with you. No carseat in plane, car rental, etc.

I would drive, it is easier than flying with a child. What about maybe taking a train?

I would fly if your going to fly from LGA to National/Reagan airport. It is the easiest way to get their.
BWI is a little more inconvenient. If it was a choice between bwi and driving... then i would drive.
I went to school down there and flying was always the easiest option. It was literally 2 hours door to door. From LI to DC.

I used to live in McLean, VA. I would definitely drive.
