Re: Golden Globes -- Oprah

I adore Oprah and I think her speech was amazing. However, I don't get all these people shouting for her to be the next President. Haven't we learned anything from the current debacle we are in that a President with no political experience is not a great idea. Yes she is an inspiring woman, but does she know anything about public policy, etc? Our country is in dire need of help and people want to vote celebrities into the oval office. I seriously worry about the priorities of people and the future of our country.

I agree with this, BUT, think that as a smart woman, a well spoken leader, a philanthropist, and advocate she is someone who people could get behind and feel good about -- we know she could have important conversations in an intelligent manner. Give speeches with grace and poise. Could represent us, the USA in a respectful and diplomatic way. She would have the right people behind her and by her side. I dont think Oprah would do anything half assed and in this case i think she wouldnt even fathom running if she didnt think she would do a service. We need someone to run in 2020 that can beat this son of a B. If Oprah is what it takes I am behind it. She has a better following and deeper pockets. My fingers are crossed.

I kind of agree. I don't want to normalize a single thing about this presidency so the whole celebrity running is not something I'd like to see repeated. That being said if there was one celebrity I could get behind I think she'd be it.

Possibly Secretary of State, Secretary of the Interior, or some other Cabinet position. Then, she can run for President after that.
She would still do a tremendously better job than anyone in the current administration.

Yup. Same here.

I've always loved Oprah and still do - but she is known to have had a close relationship with Harvey Weinstein (not sexual) but it's rumored she knew about the abuse and never said anything. Maybe thats why people may seem her speech was a little over the top? I dont know.

She is a survivor of childhood rape and molestation so I find it VERY hard to believe she knew about Weinstein. I'd truly be shocked to hear otherwise, given her background and advocacy for women, that as a sexual abuse victim herself she stood behind a sexual predator. JMO.

I don't get why people want to hold Oprah accountable for Weinstein's behavior. I've seen Trump supporters posting pictures of them together as if it makes her complicit when Trump' s own reaction to the scandal was that he's known Harvey for years and isn't surprised. Why can people stand behind Trump despite his own connections to abusers and his own dozen accusers but they think Oprah is horrible for being friends with Weinstein. It just makes me think the divisiveness right now is never going to get better.

Re: Golden Globes -- Oprah

so I've always been a huge fan of Oprah, I watched her everyday when I was nine years old (which.. was probably a lot for a kid but I was such a fan! LOL) and was talking to my co-worker about her a few weeks ago actually. I was SHOCKED to hear that my co-worker went to a taping of hers about 9/11 victims and said that she was no longer a fan afterwards. She said Oprah had children of the fallen on the show and was very loving/kind/etc. while the tape was rolling but would just completely ignore the kids as soon as the tape cut off. She said after that, she was no longer a fan and wanted nothing to do with Oprah.

Now I was a fan, and still am a fan, but I guess things aren't always as they seem. Makes me reconsider the probability of the Weinstein thing.

I think they are all like that. I went to see Rachal Rey one time. She seems so bubbly on camera, but when the tapes stopped rolling, she was demanding, and cold, and could not care less for the guests on her show.

I think with the popularity of Trump now, people will vote for anyone now. I dont think Oprah will really run. JMO

Completely agree and you would think from the outside, that would certainly be something she wouldnt stand for - but I also think its hard for people like us to imagine ourselves in their positions with all that power and money. I would like to give her the benefit of the doubt especially considering what she's experienced and where she comes from. Yet, with all she has become, would she sacrifice it during that time and go public with what she knew? Seems unlikely - but maybe she didnt know anything at all! Who knows - I dont pretend to speculate anything about what I couldnt possibly know....I just enjoy reading the gossip lol.

I know people who had experiences with her during her show where she traveled to different restaurants years ago and they said she was absolutely horrible.
