Re: Golden Retriever experience
I love my golden. She was the best puppy and still is such a good dog. She was easily trained, probably only 3 accidents EVER. And she never barks, she is so friendly, and great with my kids.

Re: Golden Retriever experience
Puppies are great, but so are young adult GR and adult GR-less training and they are housebroken.
When you are ready, please don't buy one, think about adopting or rescuing one. You can do a search on petfinders.com.
Good luck.

Re: Golden Retriever experience
I love my GR. He'll be 3 in February.
We got him when he was 10 months old and was fully housetrainined.
He is such a character. He loves everyone and everything. He gives big hugs whenever you enter the house. He also has no concept of his size and loves to sit on my lap. He is such a snuggler. He is just a lover
Guard dog he definately is not. However he is very protective of my DH. He will sit in front of DH and watch what you are doing if you approach DH. And if you try to do something to DH my pup will jump up and put his paws on your shoulder and stare you down
He is super wonderful with kids. He is so gentle and loves the kids on my block.
If we get a second dog it will definately be another golden

Re: Golden Retriever experience
I can't say enough GREAT things about my Golden! She just turned 3 in November.
Great puppy, never chewed on anything.
She becomes protective when DH isn't home, wasn't really too much before I was pregnant, it started when I became pregnant and now is protective when DH isn't home. It funny, when DH comes home from work, you can see she becomes all relaxed
She LOVES children! Adores and is absolutely amazing with my 18 momth old daughter.

Re: Golden Retriever experience
My Rudy is not a pure Golden. He is mixed with Chow Chow. He does have more golden traits though. He is AMAZING. My best friend has a pure golden and she is AMAZING!

You might get lucky and find one at the guilford animal shelter...I saw a few last time we were there.

Re: Golden Retriever experience
I've never owned a Golden myself but I know people who have and everyone had nothing but good things to say about them.
