Good crafty idea/activity for 20 month to 28 month olds?

I have a playgroup every Thurs, and this week's falls on Sasha's birthday so I am hosting-- doing cake, etc.

I am doing a party on Sat, but was thinking that I wanted to do something fun at playgroup-- any ideas? Not too messy!! Chat Icon

Chloe will be 2 on thursday too. it's unreal that our babies are so big! She is really into those foam stickers right now. She also loves to trace her hands and feet if you can think of a cute project to do with that.

playdough could be good too. she loves decorating cookies, but it's an absolute mess!

Make turtles!
haha

Paper plates, cut out circles (more paper plates really) and green tissue paper with glue stick or glue.

AJ LOVED it. Green, green, green. Teacher put the 'feet' and 'head' on and drew the face. I think she also put lots of glue stick on for them and put out the cut up pieces of green tissue paper. The rest the kids did. Put that paper just about EVERYWHERE layers etc. She loved it, thought she was an artist!

STRINGING:
Thick looking plastic 'thread' (at craft store) and dry ziti (sp?) which they 'colored' with safe markers (washable) they threaded like three-five through and made a long necklace

Paper plate animals is a going theme lately. We've gotten a lamb where the face was black construction paper and cotton balls for 'fur'. A bear who had glued on eyes that move and a small paper cup for a nose with a black cotton ball glued inside then white cotton balls for fur (guess it was a polar bear).

just some ideas from afterschool care at AJ's school.

ETA: I second tracing hands. She loves to do that and her feet. But it can get messy and other than turkeys and trees I've yet to get more creative.

Stickers...When I worked as a Nanny, the girls I watched 18 months -2.5 years, loved stickers..I would buy tons of them...The foam ones are great. You can buy foam mats and have them decorate them...

The foam stickers are a big hit here too. I've been cutting out hearts and she's been gluing them to another sheet of paper and then decorating with foam stickers.

Play-doh
dye some pasta and have them string necklaces
