Good Deeds/Volunteer work
During the Christmas season I tried to teach DD about the joys of giving and I'd like to follow it up with some occasional volunteer work etc. Does anyne know of anything we could do or ways to find out what to do?

Re: Good Deeds/Volunteer work
What about checking with a local hospital to see if they need any volunteers?
I work in a hospital- and around Halloween, DD and I made goody bags for the kids in the pediatric unit. I told her all about what we were doing- and she had a million questions! It was alot of fun, felt good to give back, and I know that DD definitely learned something from it.

That's a really cute idea
Any more ideas?

Check out the website: Do one nice thing.
There are many, many ideas there, including an organization that distributes children's artwork to nursing home residents.
ETA: A real eye-opening charity for children is Birthday Wishes, a New England organization with a branch on LI that brings birthday parties to homeless kids in shelters. They have a "party in a box" option where you can assemble everythng that is needed & they drop it off at a closed shelter.
