Good flowers for a shady front yard?
We get some morning sun and then the front of my house is shady/cool the rest of the day.
What are some good flowers to get and when do I plant them?
Is next week too early? I'm off all week and I wanted to get outside.
TIA!

impatiens do really well in the shade....but I wouldn't plant them until the middle of May - usually mother's day is a good estimate of time.

I third that! Our front porch gets no direct sunlight...only part of the front garden does, so we will be doing impatien baskets.

my parents own a garden center... definitely hold off on planting things yet, we could still get a frost or cold snap- like the others said, the middle of may is a good time. impatiens are great for shade and are really colorful, you could also do begonias....

Re: Good flowers for a shady front yard?
It is too early to plant. Early to mid-May should be safe.
Impatiens and begonias definitely. They are also incredibly easy to care for. Pansies also do okay with some shade, but they will die out when the weather gets warmer. Coleus may be okay if you have some sun during the day. Hostas are great and will come back year after year. There are other good perennials for shade such as spotted dead nettle (prettier than the name) and astilbe.
You could also try hydrangeas if you want shrubs--they will do just fine in shade.
It is challenging having a shady garden--I had one in Brooklyn and it was difficult to find plants beyond impatiens and begonias that do well. You do discover plants that you may not know about otherwise though. Good luck!

If you're looking for something green, you might want to do some hostas, they do okay in partial shade.
