I need to cut this out and give it to my MIL. She was forever clipping articles about how co-sleeping could lead to smothering and death.. it might be good for her to see a positive spin for once!

Very interesting. We weren't really pro or con co-sleeping. We figured we'd take it as it came.
DD has been a great sleeper since she was two months old. She never wants us in her bed after we are done reading to her and she has never come looking to sleep in our bed. If she is up (and it is so rarely) to use the bathroom she will come ask to be tucked back in to her bed, which we oblige.
She only comes in our bed to snuggle for a little while in the morning.
I can't see how this would make her 3x more likely to be obese than a co-sleeper.
Glad however that co-sleepers finally have a little something positive to read.

I think the key here is that the obesity risk that is reduced is the one associated with poor sleep quality. They are saying that children who co-sleep can have a greater sense of emotional connection and support - leading to a better quality of sleep and thus reducing the risk of obesity associated with poor sleep. If your DD is content and sleeps well in her own bed I don't think the article pertains to her specific risk of obesity. Also, the fact that you do allow her to cuddle and snuggle with you shows that she does feel emotional support and connection, thus further reducing the idea of sleep related obesity risk.
