Good Samaritan or Southside (LIJ) for delivery???
I would appreciate any feedback! It will be a c-section so a 4-5 day stay. I know Good Sam can be crowded

Re: Good Samaritan or Southside (LIJ) for delivery???
southside has a new unit. and has more private rooms.
good sam can DEF. get very crowded the unit is much older. rooms are smaller and no private rooms. unless you get lucky with no roommate. BUT they have a much better NICU.

Re: Good Samaritan or Southside (LIJ) for delivery???
thanks so much for your reply - I had my first at GS and it was very crowded but the staff was amazing and my DD was in ICU so it worked out. My only holdback is I am now realizing SS does not have NICU unit - wish I could deliver at Stonybrook which has one and private rooms! Are they always private? even when overcrowded? The one thing about GS was my last 2 days they had empty rooms and still were doubling everyone up! ughh

My friend delivered at Southside and was pleased with the maternity portion. She wasn't however thrilled with the pediatrics where her daughter had to stay for a few days.

Good sam does have private room. They only have 4-6 rooms but they DO have them. I had both my DC at GS and had a private room both times. The staff was amazing each time so my vote goes for GS, especially b/c they also have a wonderful NICU.

SOUTHSIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I delivered DS (my first born) at Good Sam and DD at Southside. No comparison!! Good Sam is always over crowded and some rooms don't have a privae shower, so you have to walk to a community shower on the maternity floor and it's just an incovenience
The maternity ward at Southside is wonderful...they treat you like royalty. More private rooms and the nurses are just unbelievable! They truly LOVE taking care of you and your baby. I had a c-section and enjoyed every second of my stay. They have a huge breakfast and lunch buffet that is catered from an outside caterer. It's cute because they make an announcement before the buffet is open and they say something like "c'mon mommies..it's time for breakfast/lunch, come on down with your new babies" It's like a little mommy GTG! ETA: neither babies needed to be in the NICU.

ITA!
I had DD at Good Sam. I was there for 5 days with a c-section. I had one strange room mate after another. I had nooo privacy.
I had DS at Southside, and it was a luxury hotel in comparison.

Re: Good Samaritan or Southside (LIJ) for delivery???
I went through this too. People scared me about the NICU at south side. After speaking with several doctors, taking tours of both hospitals, and speaking with old patients, I decided to stay with southside.
The reason I didn't want southside is people told me they don't have a great NICU. After research the truth is that Southside and good sam both have the same level NICU. The difference is that if there is a major issue with the child and it needs long-term care it will get sent to a different LIJ, which is one of the best children's hopitals in NY.
I loved Southside and I love my dr. So I would never change!

Re: Good Samaritan or Southside (LIJ) for delivery???
so the level of NICU is the same at SouthSide as GS? never knew that thankyou I am dreading my c-section at GS as I had my first there and they switched my room 3times and it was so crowded! there was no privacy and one roomate had over 15 visitors at once! my daughter was in NICU so i did not see her much and it broke my heart watching my roomates with thier babies, i know it sounds silly but I was so depressed and as crowded as it was felt terribly empty
