Good Sam's ladies, please settle an argument
From what I recall, a few ladies said that your SO needed a c-section class in order to be there with you at delivery if you had a c-section.
Someone at work is SWEARING this is not true and her cousin had a c-section last year and her DH did not need it.

Huntington Hospital used to say that you needed lamaze/csecton class in order to be admitted into the Labor/Delivery room...Speaking from experience noone ever asked for such proof...
Maybe some doctors tell their patients a simular type of thing for Good Sam b/c they prefer their patients have the class...

Re: Good Sam's ladies, please settle an argument
I just asked my Dr about this last week. They "say" its mandatory however, if you are planning a vaginal delivery and need an emergecy section, they wont make you go in alone. YOu just say you forgot your certificate at home.

Re: Good Sam's ladies, please settle an argument
My friend had her baby at Good Sam's almost 2 years ago and her DH did have to take a class to be in the OR when she had her c-section. Maybe they changed the rules....

Re: Good Sam's ladies, please settle an argument
We went to a lamaze class at Good Sam last night & the nurse did say it was mandatory..there are a few coming up in the next few weeks you don't have to register, just show up.
But technically I don't think they can force you to take it.

Re: Good Sam's ladies, please settle an argument
I did have a c-section at Good Sam.. DH and I took the class (I was not going into the OR myself!!!) We brought the Cert. with us and they never asked for it... We were told at Lamaze it was mandatory for insurance purposes (The hosp. not ours). It truly was a quick and painless class.

Re: Good Sam's ladies, please settle an argument
We took the class. We were told to bring the certification with us in the labor bag. However, my Dr. kind-of implied that if you need a c-section, they won't stop the husband from being there.

Re: Good Sam's ladies, please settle an argument
I was told I had to take it. It was free and it was actually really good. It was only 2 hours and felt that I learned alot in general. More than the lamaze class and I had to pay for that.
I'm sure if it is an emergency they won't make your DH wait outside.

Yes, that is what they told me at the doctor's office last time I was there. Anyone who will be in the delivery room with you needs to go with you to that C section class.

Re: Good Sam's ladies, please settle an argument
Yes, That is true. I had a cs there. Here is a tip. At the class, you fill out your own certificates. I would "pretend" that another person was with you, and put that name down too- becuase if Dh can't make it for the birth for any reason, you want to have another person who is "certified to be with you. Good Luck
