Good Start vs. Similac Sensitive
I recently switched from Similac Advanced to Good Start because I noticed my DS seemed very gassy and uncomfortable. He's been on Good Start for about 4 days now and he seems to be getting worse. Should I give it more time or make another formula switch?
He seems to be hungry all the time...not sure if that's because Good Start is a 'lighter' formula than others. I know every baby is different, but I hear so many positive things about Similac Sensitive...does anyone know what the difference between GS and Similac Sensitive are?
TIA

Re: Good Start vs. Similac Sensitive
I used Good Start for Emma when she was born. Horrible gas and dark green poop from it. Switched back to regular formula. I would probably move onto something else. Emma always had gas, some days worse than others, but they have to work out the kinks in their digestive systems which takes time, so all babies will have some gas.

Re: Good Start vs. Similac Sensitive
I think we went through 5 formulas and the only thing that worked was Good Start the purple can! Not the other ones.
Never tried the Similac Sensitive.

Re: Good Start vs. Similac Sensitive
Similac Sensitive is AMAZING for the gassiness!!! Rylan was on that for a long time. We just recently switched to Good Start because I heard it was good for colicky babies.
I did hear that GS does make them a little hungrier. If the gassiness is your only problem I suggest Similac.

Did you try Enfamil Gentlease? That was great for Hayley's gas. It is a little thinner so you might have to fee him more

Re: Good Start vs. Similac Sensitive
I'd give it more than 4 days. We had to switch a couple of times and the 4th day was always the worst than it would get better each day. I would see how it is by a week and if it is better I would just stay on it.

Re: Good Start vs. Similac Sensitive
Of course I'm only guessing that it's gas...but he always seems to be pushing and looking generally uncomfortable. Yesterday his only BM was small and hard. I really thought Good Start was going to be easier on his little system, but now I feel guilty for switching off Similac Advanced.
It's impossible to find GS purple can anymore...only in powder form.
I'm willing to try Sim Sensitive, but if that also doesn't 'work', can I go back to the regular formula...or is moving backwards only going to make things worse????

It sounds like he is constipated with the pushing and hard BMs.
We use similac sensitive and it really helped DD. She became a different happy baby.

Looks like I'll be going to the store to try yet another formula! Thanks for all the words of advice.

Re: Good Start vs. Similac Sensitive
Similac Sensitive worked really well for DSs gas problems. It took close to a week to see a difference, but after that, he was a much happier baby.
The one thing I don't like about it is that it contains sucrose and corn syrup! I could swear I looked at the ingredients when we switched and I don't remember corn syrup at all, and I thought the sucrose was further down the chart. But maybe my brain was addled from sleep deprivation, and I didn't read the label correctly? They did change the label recently, so it's possible the formula was changed too.
I suppose this is to replace the lactose that is removed, but I've tasted Advance and Sensitive, and Sensitive is definitely sweeter to me. So I hope I haven't started him on a lifetime urge for sweet things. Now he's starting on solids and we'll move him off formula little by little, so I'm not sure it's worth it to switch back. I didn't check Good Start, but I noticed Enfamil has corn syrup too.

Re: Good Start vs. Similac Sensitive
we switched when DS was 4/5 weeks from Similac Advanced to Good Start due to gas and discomfort. Took about 10 days to noticed the difference but we love the GS now. However DS never got Worse during the transition.
How did you transition? Our Dr told us to do a gradual switch over 3-4 days, so we mixed the formula for 3 days gradually increasing the amount of GS. By day 4 it was all GS.

Re: Good Start vs. Similac Sensitive
We didn't do a gradual switch over, we just went from Sim Advanced to GS. Maybe this wasn't the way to go. This whole formula business is so confusing! I hate to see my LO in pain. Ugghh...I just hate to keep switching then having to go through 10 days of 'wait and see' only to have to switch yet again!

Re: Good Start vs. Similac Sensitive
I used similac first and my DS did not cope well with it. My pediatrician made me switch to Good Start and since then he has been doing great. Ask your pediatrician on what to do?
