Goodie Bags @ parties and classrooms (random thought)
This post is inspired by the home board and a post regarding clutter and organizing. Alex is only in Kindergarten but the amount of goodie bags sent home got me thinking. Is all these little junky items really necessary??? Don't get me wrong I want the kids to recognize their b-days and holidays but where does it end. I have more, pencils, erasers, rings, bracelets and junky little trinkets that my kids hardly even touch. I wind up throwing half the stuff out.
Schools cut out cupcakes/treats on b-days because of obesity and now we are generating tons of trash with these little goodie bags. I am going to try and come up with something better by March for Alex's b-day.
Anyone else feel like "boycotting" all these junk items in order to save our homes and our environment from more clutter/trash???

We have done Mad libs(from the dollar store) that were a big hit. We also have made our own coloring books incorporating the kids names and things that they like.(with online printables)we have personalized word searches etc.

Yes, I hate that stuff. I do it myself though, just because I have no idea what to buy, so pencils it is.

I can't stand all that goodie bag stuff and of course my sons won't part with any of it. Luckily we can still do cupcakes for birthdays and we only get that stuff for holidays.

Re: Goodie Bags @ parties and classrooms (random thought)
i agree, all the stuff that my son got in goodie bags for Halloween was wasted-he is only 2.5 yrs old and most of it was a choking hazard anyway! Instead of sending in a goodie bag for the holiday party in December, I bought a floor puzzle and playdoh for the classroom. I knew they would get use out of it and I didn't feel like I was wasting my money on stuff that winds up in the trash. i am sure if you did something like that for your children-if they brought in a toy for their classroom it would definitely be put to good use during inside recess time.

I absolutely hate all that goody bag trash!!! Hate it! Of course the kids absolutely love it the second they see it and then forget about it the next and all those stupid random little objects end up in the strangest places all over the house! Ugh!
I had no idea cup-cakes are being cut out though. They are definitely allowed in our school. So glad too, if what they are being replaced with is trash!

Love this idea. I am going to send in a toy.
