got genetic test results
I got my genetic test results from my d & c, it was abnormal. They said it was 47 chromesomes instead of 46. Has that happened to anyone else? Is that common? I think I am relieved that it was not a genetic disorder for us to be concerned about. How does an extra chromosome drop? My dr. said my fertility was fine and we are good to go, once AF returns.
Any thought?

I ended up with 45 chromosones. No "X" for the gender (Turner's Syndrome). It was a girl I'm glad it was a 'fluke' and nothing more. A bad egg or sperm.
Keep your head up!

Re: got genetic test results
I had a pregnancy that ended due to trisomy 16. It is one of the most (if not THE most) common chromosomal abnormalities that occurs in humans. If it is a full trisomy 16 (as opposed to a mosaic) it is incompatible with life and would never have made it past the first trimester. The pathology from my D and C revealed all of this. This is the kind of thing that happens during cell division and does not have an effect on future pregnancies. In other words, its not something that is someones fault or something you carry and pass on and can happen to any pregnancy to any couple at any age. I have 2 healthy children both of which I had amnios with and both are chromosomally in tact.

Re: got genetic test results
Thank you so much Goldi0218. I was never really told much more than there were 47 chromosomes and that its just abnormal, but that i have nothing to worry about my fertility. I was concerned that this may an issue for future pregnancies. This was my first everything. Thanks again for explaining, it really helped.

Re: got genetic test results
Any time. Its very hard and though I do have two children, I will never forget what could have been had my three losses never happened. I will say that my persistence and faith got me through the hardest of times. I was nowhere NEAR done trying. Best of luck and feel free to FM me anytime.

Re: got genetic test results
I am sure it is. I am trying to put myself back together. I got pregnant fairly quickly and was tested with no fertility issues so I am confident I will get pregnant soon once I can try again. I will definitely be persistent and will try to stay positive. thanks

My Dr's mottos is "persistence prevails".
m/c#3 was trisomy 16; #4 was trisomy 15.

Interesting that you post this. After my second m/c before Abby, I had said to my RE that I didnt think I could do this anymore and that I'd had enough. He looked me dead in the eye and said "If you don't do it again, you won't have kids." Very blunt. At that point, I was more determined than ever and then I got PG with Abby. When you look at your children after all that so many of us went through to get there, you will realize that each and every tear was not in vain and it was all worth it. I promise you.
