Got Max to eat wet food

which I never give him. I hope he doesn't throw it up.

I'm out of ideas on how to give him his meds he won't take it. I wrap it in all kinds of things.

Re: Gor Max to eat wet food

I have DH hold Espresso while I open his mouth and push the pill as far back as I can get it. Then I hold his mouth closed until he swallows. Only occasionally has he worked the pill back out - then we do it all over again.Chat Icon

Re: Got Max to eat wet food

yep, I just was holding Max, DH came over and held his mouth open and I shoved down as far as I could. He swallowed.

I may have to do this all the time. he's becoming a very picky eater all of a sudden.

I may go out and get some more wet food since he likes that. he had little interest in the tuna or turkey we got him. He didn't even want ice cream which is his absolute favorite.Chat Icon

Is Max a cat or dog??

If he is a dog...Peanut Butter does the trick for taking meds...they cant smell it and it works like a charm every time.

Re: Got Max to eat wet food

I just gave him some turkey...yummy...I'm feeding him by hand every few hrs to make sure he eats. Doc wants him to gain 2 lbs..I feel like a bad mommy..my baby is under nourished.

Re: Got Max to eat wet food

what about diluting it and putting it in a medicine dropper and open his mouth and put it in.

Re: Got Max to eat wet food

I posted yesterday that we do the "shove it in his mouth and hold it closed method" for Charlie.

At one point though our vet gave us this little pill gun type thing that you put the pill in and then it shoots it right down. Its really fast and you can get a good angle. That worked for us when Charlie's pills were smaller although we did have to hold his mouth shut afterwards.

Can you pulverize it and sprinkle it over his food?

Re: Got Max to eat wet food

I can sprinkle it over the food but he's being so picky about what he eats, that if I do that with enough pills, he won't have enough left over.

He ate some tuna just before too so I'm hoping he is getting better.

I will keep shoving the pill down his throat. he won't even take it in a treat.
