I thought they were supposed to use those finger wraps, let it soak for 10 minutes and then just wipe the polish off the nail, therefore no damage.

Well the salon I went to soaked my nails in acetone and then filed them to get the old polish off, obviously weakening my nails.Chat Icon

Is this normal?

I guess I should have asked before they started to remove it what their process was.

I guess I have to go to another salon or remove the old polish myself at home?

They should not have to file your nails. Do not let them do that! It should literally just wipe off with a little scrape after being wrapped or soaked for 10 minutes. Thats the beauty of shellac. It shouldn't ruin your nails.

I have found that most nail salons file b/c it's quicker. If you go to a hair salon that also does nails, they seem to do it the right way.

That's what I thought!

I'm definitely going to have to find a new place.

they wrap them up in acetone and after like 10 minutes, just scrape off the shellac, and then buff to clear it completely.... never ever file

When I had it done I had to soak it for a lot longer than 10 minutes! Then they scraped, filed and buffed my nails. Shellac is just like getting your nails wrapped. Even the lady that did my nails said to not do it again, it damages your nails like any other wrap. I'd rather get a mani every week with fresh polish.
