Got my IUD today
Ummm not fun. I went to the dentist for a cleaning/scaling and then for my IUD. What a painful day.
I can say now that its over I feel fine. I had some cramping after but took Ibuprofen and a nap and woke up feeling fine.
Maybe now that I feel protected I'll want to do the deed again. DH will be happy if that happens.
My midwife asked when the last time was (they want to be sure you aren't pregnant) and I started laughing hysterically. She said some on you have to have a rough idea and I said No I sware I have absolutely no idea. When I was leaving she said go and have lots of sex, you are safe now.

Re: Got my IUD today
Which one did you get, the one with hormones or without. My Dr recommended this to me, but I have not made up my mind.

I got the Mirena, the one with the hormones. I can't really say why I chose one over the other except that my midwife and almost all the women in the office have used the Mirena so I felt comfortable knowing they have all been OK with it. Also the idea of having a piece of metal inside my uterus felt odd.

Re: Got my IUD today
I'm still considering switching to the IUD but I think I want to go sans hormones and go for the Paraguard. Please let me know how your first period goes after this ...I heard they are longer and more painful. Okay...that must sound strange but I'm interested in getting it!!

It may be a while because I still don't get my period since I am BF/pumping. But if I do get it I'll let you know. My midwife who uses the Mirena says she hardly ever gets a period and loves it.

Wow really? I didn't know it could affect your period that way too. Hey that may not be such a bad thing...

Re: Got my IUD today
I LOVED having my IUD...I had to have it removed months later because it expelled itself. My body just rejected it. But that is rare. It is the best birth control I have ever had.

Re: Got my IUD today
You don't have to wait until you get your period to get it, that si good to know. When one dr mentioned goingnin on the mini pill at 6 weeks poistpartum, I was like no way, I am not forcing my period to come back.

Good to hear. I'm definitley considering it after my girl arrives in May. I hated the mini-pill and won't do that again.

My Gyn recommeded Mirena to me- and she said it often makes the periods much lighter, less painful and sometimes stops them completely.

Re: Got my IUD today
I have the Mirena also - I actually didn't mind the procedure at all. They gave me Tylenol beforehand and during I had a bit of cramping but nothing bad.
I've only had it for 3 weeks but so far so good. I'm glad I went for it.

Re: Got my IUD today
Okay this is going to be a real stupid question.
Where does this exactly go? The reason I ask is that I went for a endometrial biopsy, and they could not get the tube thru my cervix since my uterus is tilted or some crap like that. I am assuming it has to be put up thuer my cervix right?? If that si the case, I am worried it will hurt, since when they did the endomoetrial biopsy I was screaming in pain, and made them stop before they got thru with it. I wonder if I was being a wimp or not though, LOL!

I know its pretty high up there - not exactly sure where though. I have a tilted uterus and the doc didn't have a problem - it really went well.
So now *I* have a dumb question......my DH can feel it when we Of course he was afraid it was going to cut it off LOL....it was only the strings he felt though. Are we the only ones with this problem
