Graco Snugride Installation question-Chevy Trailblazer
We have an 04 Trailblazer (no 3rd row)- I'm reading mixed things about where to install the carseat-some say never in the center and some say as long as there are latches. Where are the latches? Dh thinks its going to be so simple. I beg to differ.
Any suggestions?

Re: Graco Snugride Installation question-Chevy Trailblazer
Here is what I learned when I went for a saftey inspection for our Sungride. I had it installed behind the passenger seat, because that's where the latches were, but because of the size of our car it pushed the passenger seat so far forward it was really hard for an adult to sit in it. I asked the inspector about that and he said the safest place for the seat is actually in the center in the back, latches or not. He said the reason everyone says to put it where the latches are is because its much easier to install correctly that way, BUT, if you install correctly using the seatbelt, in the center, its the safest option of all.
In fact, he said that latches are only tested up to 40lbs and that seatbelts are certified much higher than that (400lbs maybe?), so that gives the greatest safety.. again, provided its installed correctly.
He also said that the Sungride is made particularly well (easy) for seatbelt installation.
Anyway, ours is now in the middle, using the seatbelt, and I will say, its much tighter than it was on the side, using the latches.

Not all cars can have the seats in the center. A properly installed seat on the side is safe. LATCH is perfectly safe. They have been texted for 40 pound seats because that was what was on the market.
Anyway, for your car, the center will work fine. The Chevy Tahoe has sufficient room and the right layout for center installation. Check your owners manual if LATCH is available in the center, and use it free of mind that it is safe.
If you use the shoulder/lap, make sure you uise the locking clip and do not lock the shoulder belt. The locked shoulder belt will pull your seat at an improper angle.
If you can get it inspected. I would recommend that. Forum mail me for a location in your area.
