Grade 5 Geometry question HELP PLEASE
I have a demo lesson in a 5th grade advanced math class. Is it safe to assume they have prior knowledge of the 3 types of triangles? Right, acute, obtuse?

Re: Grade 5 Geometry question HELP PLEASE
if it's an advanced class, maybe.... the TYPES of triangles are part of the general education fifth grade curriculum. I don't cover that until about January.... if you have time in your demo. i would do a quick review to see if they know that.
also, you might be able to ask the teacher who's class you're using what they know or dont' know... if they don't know it and you've based your lesson on them knowing it, you're in trouble.
GOOD LUCK!

Re: Grade 5 Geometry question HELP PLEASE
honestly, I wouldn't count on it. It is part of the 5th grade curriculum, but most of my 6th graders never knew it.
I would either throw in some quick review if you have the time, or do something else.

That's something that we don't cover until about January/February.

Re: Grade 5 Geometry question HELP PLEASE
I teach 5th grade and we don't touch on this until around December. It's sort of like a "review" but the kids NEVER remember the types of angles/triangles. I would definitely use pattern blocks if you have them available. Manipulatives work great on a demo lesson!
Good luck!
