Grand Cayman
We are going to Grand Cayman with DH's family at the end of July. We are staying on the other end of the island from where most of the resorts, restaurants, etc. are. I wanted to know if anyone ever stayed on the East End, and if so, how was it? Also, what activities do you recommend doing on either side of the island? Thanks!

Re: Grand Cayman
I went there a few years back. We stayed in a hotel that unfortuntely was destroyed in one of the Hurricanes but i loved it there. We only stayed 5 days (you will get bored), but i had a great time there. We ate at the Wharf Restaurant. You have to go there. It is right on the water and the food is unbelievable. Had one of the best lobsters ever. We also ate at the Hyatt hotel (it was their fancy restaurant but i don't remember the name). That was very good and romantic as well. Very pricy though.
We walked along the beach (we were on the strip of resorts) and found an outside bar/dancing area with live band that we went to a few nights. It was nice.
The island is reltively safe, but we did feel uncomfortable taking a bus from one end of the strip back to our hotel. Some locals were eyeing us and it became very uncomfortable, but other then that I felt pretty safe.
Cayman is known for their diving and a lot of people there do that. We didn't. Also, swimming with the stingrays is another big thing there...but we didn't do that either. Other then that there is not a ton to do on the island but relax. FM me if you want me info.
ETA - If anyone in your family loves to golf, the Hyatt has a Jack Nicholason designed golf course that is beautiful!

Re: Grand Cayman
We went to Grand Cayman a couple of years ago and we had a terrific time. We were there for 5 nights and we found there was plenty to do during the day. There wasn't much going on a night though. We took a ferry to Rum Point and hung at the beach over there and rented jet skis. We went to Sting Ray city (TIP- do this on a day when there are no cruise ships in port!) We went to the Turtle Farm, the Tortuga Rum factory we went on the Jolly Roger sunset booze cruise. We did try and rent a jeep, but they drive on the left side (like England) and we were uncomfortable, so we returned it. We took the bus and didn't have any problems.

Re: Grand Cayman
I forgot about Rum Point...we did that too and that was a lot of fun. A boat takes your over and its like a desserted island and you lay out on hammocks and just relax right on the water. It was heaven!
