Grandma's Engagement Ring...What to do with it??
Can anyone help me out. My Grandmother when she passed, left me her engagement ring. It's gold with a diamond in the middle (not very big) and two smaller ones on each side. The diamonds and gold are pretty tarnished and worn looking. Can i get a whole new setting with the diamonds and have the diamonds cleaned? Also it is gold, but i don't wear gold. Could i put maybe the $ of the gold towards payment?
Does anyone know approx how much i should expect to pay??
Thanks...never did this before so i am unsure what to do.

I reset my mother's e-ring from my Dad.
They took the stone out and put it into a pendant. I just paid for the price of the pendant and kept the gold band that the diamond had been in.

Don't know about cost, but get it cleaned really well and it may look completely new.
I have my mom's band and ering. I had the band repaired and cleaned and almost didn't recognize it as the same ring! I wear it as my wedding band.

I would bring it to your jeweler and have them clean it. not just steam it but really polish the gold and the diamond. I think it costs around $30. It will look amazing and you might save yourself some money in the longrun after you see it clean

I would love to just clean them, but I don't wear gold. Can I have them dip it in silver or something like that?? I am sooooo clueless.

You could probably have it dipped in white gold, you wouldn't want to have it done in silver.

Exactly --- I wear my MIL's wedding band (and my husband wears his dad's -- they were passed on to us when we got married) and it was origionally yellow gold so they dipped it in white gold.
You do have to get it redipped from time to time but it isn't very expensive and weve been married for 7 months and it still looks white to me.
Eta: I love antique jewlery so I would also try getting it cleaned first. I would hate to see an antique setting get scrapped -- maybe you could save it and one day give it to a daughter on her sweet 16? I just think it's a valuable memory to keep for your family.

Re: Grandma's Engagement Ring...What to do with it??
my sister took my Mom's e-ring and had the center stone set in a necklace
then took the setting and sidestones- had the gold dipped to make it white gold and put my Mom's birthstone in the center
both are very pretty

Dont have any suggestions for the diamonds but you can have the setting dipped in white gold if you want to wear it the way it is - and have the diamonds cleaned and see how it looks. Ive done this with some of my yellow gold jewelry. Its inexpensive to have done and looks nice.
