Dendrobium orchids
They are beautiful! I'm an orchid junkie (I have over 20 plants, all different varieties)

Re: Great flower pictures
Are they Vulcan Delphinium? I just ordered them for the centerpieces for DS first birthday! I also had them in my wedding flowers.
ETA: I just saw Kathy's response. Those orchids are beautiful! I love orchids. I want DH to build me a greehouse so I can *attempt* to grow them.

You don't need a greenhouse at all to grow orchids....they are super easy! Just water every one-two weeks, and that's it! I repot them only when the roots start growing out of the pots...but that's it. I don't use any fancy fertilizers or plant food. I have all mine in eastern windows (don't know if that has anything to do with them)...I've had some for at least 5 years, blooming every year.

I am very afraid to have any attractive plants in the house b/c I know the Chihuahua & the Crested would live in the windowsill.
I might give it a shot in a room they are not allowed in though. You have inspired me. Where do you buy them?

Re: Great flower pictures
I haven't been there in several years, but Bayport Flowerhouse had some very nice varieties. I'm not sure what they have now, but it's always a nice place to walk around.
You can even go to Home Depot to get a basic orchid.
I've purchased a few online as well.
I'd start with a phalenopsis (sp is probably wrong). They are really easy and stay in bloom for a very long time (the one in my bathroom has been in bloom for at least two months now) They come in different colors:

Re: Great flower pictures
very pretty! that's a natural color (not dyed petals?) whoah, that's phenomenal!
I give a lot of credit to people who love to grow orchids... the exotic varieties are a lot of work!
I have only known one person who is an orchid enthousiast... my post-doc advisor.... it was his mission to get them to bloom on a regular basis...
I never succeeded.....

I think they are dyed blue.

I love those -- they were used as accents in the centerpieces for my wedding.

Yes, they are. One of the petals fell off as I was putting them in water and the sink turned BRIGHT teal. Have to make sure they don't fall on the floor and stain it.

Re: Great flower pictures
those are gorgeous. I have a phalaenopsis, but it hasn't had a bloom in over 3 years. i've replanted it twice, but still no go. i'm just happy it's still alive.
