Great news for us... although others may not see it like that!
DS' school district visited DS yesterday at his school. I was not aware of the "surprised" visit since nothing had been told to us ahead of time. DS' teacher informed me of the visit yesterday. I asked the school to call me back.
They did this morning. It was not really a surprised visit per se. She was going to go later in the year but had an opening and decided to go that day. She also brought the CSE person in charge for next year as he will be transitioning from CPSE to CSE.
The good news? It is NOT her recommendation that DS comes back to the SD but indeed stays in type of program he is now. It's very structured, yet very loving teachers.
Why is it good news? Because DS is not mainstream and most SD are asked to bring the kids back to the SD and pulled out of SN schools.
DH and I are relieved that they can see our child is not up to par. Will be left in a school that cater to his needs in a loving environment and not brought back for the sake of bringing him back for $$$ reason.
Of course we would have loved to have our child becoming mainstream but there is no need for vanity or denial. We need him to be in the right setting so he can keep progressing like he has been.
I could almost cry!!! I am so glad that they are working with us and acknowledge that our child has special needs.

Re: Great news for us... although others may not see it like that!
That is good news and it's good to know that he's in good hands and comfortable where he is!
We have our meeting in the spring. Our district has half day kindergarten and special ed. is full day. As much as I'd LOVE for DS to be in a "typical" Kindergarten, I'm kind of hoping he gets the special ed. I'm not sure how he'd do without a SEIT type person in the district.
I can pretty much understand where you are coming from. If they give DS the special ed, to me, that's good news, because we know our DS' are getting what they need!

Actually that was for their special ed program. No mainstream completely!
A lot of SDs have now their own special ed classes because they are pressured to take the kids out of private schools.
Yet, she thinks their SN program is not strong enough for him.
I was so happy that they will not force us out of the setting DS needs.
A lot of SDs are taking the kids out of special needs schools and put them in their own program. Some SN programs in some SD are great, some not so much!

That's awesome! The SD I work for brought a couple of kids back who weren't ready and each time it was a disaster.

This is wonderful news! If DS is thriving at the school he attends now, but not ready for a mainstream program, it's best for him to stay where he is--they'll know how to help him and he'll be happier.
I'm happy that they are making a choice that is best for your son, and not one to save $$$.

I think that's absolutely terrific ! If your child is comfortable, happy and progressing, than that's where he belongs. It's great that your school district has him in mind and not their own agenda !
There are so many changes..from EI to CPSE to CSE...it's so unsettling for the entire family, it's such a relief when things stay stable for awhile.
