Green Bags-Bread Bags-Cold Cut bags
Anyone use these? I know the Green bags have been around but now they have all sorts of others for bread, cold cuts, cheese...
Can there really be a difference in the bags themselves? What could be different about a bag for cheese vs a bag for cold cuts?
I'm curious if they actually work. and also if anyone thinks it's a sham to buy more specialized bags for each product.

I've used Debbie Meyers green bags and they worked well. Never used the cold cut bags, though I would be open to try them too.

Consumer Reports did a report on them:
The claim. Debbie Meyer Green Bags "prolong the life of your fruits and vegetables" by absorbing and removing the ethylene gas they release, which accelerates rotting. They're sold at www.greenbags.com; 20 bags cost $10 plus $6.95 shipping.
The check. We put bananas, peaches, apples, melons, blackberries, strawberries, basil, asparagus, tomatoes, broccoli, grapes, lettuce, and carrots in Green Bags for up to five weeks. We stored the same foods for the same length of time in Ziploc bags, on a counter, in a refrigerator, or in plastic supermarket bags.
CR's take. We saw green inside the Green Bags, but often it was mold. Blackberries became moldy after three weeks, strawberries and basil after a month, and peppers and tomatoes after five weeks. It was a tough test, but the same foods stored in other ways nearly always had less mold or none after the same time. Only bananas fared significantly better in Green Bags: After two weeks, they were firm and had not turned black.

Re: Green Bags-Bread Bags-Cold Cut bags
Green bags work really well, esp. with the bananas and lettuce/spinach. You do have to wipe the moisture out once a day but my bananas last 2 weeks in them! i wonder if the CR people used them the way the directions said.
My cold cuts don't last long enough to use them, and I rarely have cheese issues.

I have used the green bags and they work fine. I read the report posted by consumer reports and I don't keep food for 2 weeks anyway.
I did notice things like cilantro lasted longer.
I don't use much bread but do have the bread bags too - can't help you with them. Haven't used them yet.

CR did say that the bananas lasted much longer in the green bags, just like you noticed.
