Grello Pediatrics?
Good mornin'!! I am a mommy-to-be that will be joining you all soon- my due date is 10/28/08. I am looking for a pediatrician for my new baby and a good friend of mine suggested the doctors she uses for her 2 kids. The group is Grello Pediatrics in West Islip. Has anyone heard of them? Pros/cons? Would you suggest them to other new moms? Any insight would be great!!

Re: Grello Pediatrics?
I go there for my 2.
Honestly i don't feel one way or another about them.
They are "OK"
Dr Stephen was good with the kids, but he is out with an illness.
I am not crazy about Dr. Ciro. I don't really like the way he talks to us or explains things. Something about him I'm just not comfortable with.

Re: Grello Pediatrics?
I went there and loved Dr. George and later Dr. Steve and Dr. Bonafede. They are all very good doctors. Dr. Ciro was a little too .. 'above it all' for my taste.. but I trusted him. But the office was always VERY busy and I do not care for the front desk staff.. they tend to be abrupt, impatient and a little rude. I followed Dr. George to his own practice (also in West Islip) and have been very happy with that choice. Bonafede also left Grello and went to George Pediatrics.
ETA: I realize this sounds like I don't think Grello is a good choice for pediatrician - and that's not it at all. I think Dr. Ciro and Dr. Steve are both professional, courteous, knowledgeable and really know their stuff. Your child would be very well cared for if you decided to use them.

Re: Grello Pediatrics?
I go to Grello. LOVED Dr. Steve. Very upset that he is out with an illness. Dr. Ciro is not my favorite. He is very rude and makes you feel like a dummy. Dr. Fitzpatrick is very nice but a little inexperienced for me. I will probably change due to the fact that we will be unable to see Dr. Steve.

Re: Grello Pediatrics?
I've been happy w/ them so far, but like the others, Dr. Steve was our favorite. We too felt Ciro was a bit condescending, although I have to say the last time I saw a difference in him. He was joking around & more laid back & answered my questions.
We never have to wait more than 15-20 minutes & I like the nurses.
The front desk can be a bit friendlier/helpful though

Re: Grello Pediatrics?
I actually really like Grello pediatrics. My son is 8 mths old and they impressed me on the first visit. As soon as the nurses saw that we were there with a newborn they took us into Ciro's office to fill out the paper work they said that the baby was too little to be in the waiting room. Once in the actual exam room it smelt like they just sanitized it. Every visit after that I have felt like all of my questions were answered and that they told me exactly what to do or what the next step/stage was. I didnt even know Dr steven was out but the last 3 visits we have seen Dr Fitzpatrick and I really like her. She is very aproachable and very easy to talk to. Every visit she wites down baby's Measurements , % and correct tyneol dosage for his new weight and also what new foods to start for you to take home with you. I find that very helpful. She is also very good with the baby talking, laughing, and interacting with him while doing the exam. These may be little things in determining a dr but every dr and nurse in the office has been very approachable and friendly.

Re: Grello Pediatrics?
Years ago I used Grello however I was not happy with the front desk (I felt they were very rude) also it was very hard to get through when trying to call (always busy) I didn't care for Dr Ciro ( I thought his bed side manners STUNK) I tried to only see Dr George when we would go but at one point they wouldn't let you request who you saw and if you made a big stink about it they would give in but make you wait forever. However this was about 10yrs ago. I'm with Dr George's office LOVE them and would highly recommend looking into them instead of the Grello's. (no offense to those who use them but I just love Dr. George as do my children)

Re: Grello Pediatrics?
Grello Pediactris is AWESOME! Just to let you know I have friends who live in Manorville, still won't switch after moving out east.. However, Dr. George is phemoninal too.. However, I have not switched to him.
I am very upset about Dr. Stephen. For those of you who do not know, there is a sign saying that Dr. Stephen is recovering from brain tumor surgery.. I can't believe this.. He is also our favorite dr. Dr. Ciro's personality has definitely changed. He is much more approachable now then he was a few years ago. Maybe he is happier now that is divorce is over... I didn't know he was getting a divorce.
Anyway, very sad... I was there yesterday with Ava. I could have cried. They ask that you refrain from asking any questions to protect Dr. Stephen's family. Another shock to me.. I had no idea that Jen Rossetti was Dr. Stephen's wife....

Re: Grello Pediatrics?
Been going to Grellos for years. Their dad was my Pediatrician and he was a lot like Stephen, very gentle very kind. Ciro is a little standoffish and like everyone else says, kind of looks down on you, but i take it with a grain of salt. He still knows his stuff. They are both easy on the eyes anyway LOL I went when Dr. Bonafede or Dr. George were there and to be honest, I wasn't crazy about them. Dr. George would NEVER give me an antibiotic for my son and every time I went and got Dr. George i would wind up having to go back and wait another 1/2 hour, pay ANOTHER co-pay and finally get the antibitoic after letting the poor baby suffer in pain and fevers when i could have gotten the antibiotic in the first place. So, I like that Stephen and Ciro are easier to get the antibiotic from. I'm not one of those moms that comes in for every little thing. I have three kids and we haven't been there in i dont know how long. As for front office, i totally agree, They can be nasty and very lame with getting test results ... I don't like them at all but i do LOVE the nurses. All in all i would definately recommend them.

Re: Grello Pediatrics?
I have been with Grello for almost 8 yrs now and I would recommend them in a heartbeat. I love Dr. Stephen and even Dr. Ciro, even though sometimes I didn't like his attitude, he knows his stuff and I was ALWAYS very confident in what he said. With all of my 3 kids, he has never steered me wrong. I actually like Dr. Sarah too.
My views on Dr. George are also really different from the above posters. I really did not care for Dr. George at all. He always seem to blow off my reasons for coming and never gave me a good feeling about his diagnosis. I actually never saw Dr. Mary in the office but she did do rounds when my daughter was born and was very pleasant. Actually her husband is my son's ENT dr.
Their father was my dr too :)
The office staff is improving, and the phones are getting better (than what they were about 7yrs ago). I have had long waits, and I have had short waits.
Good luck with your decision.

Re: Grello Pediatrics?
I have to say in my experience that the staff has not improved at all. Even when i go there to get a form filled out they have such an attitude. The last time we were there for a well visit they were talking about all the moms and one mom came in to speak to a dr about her child who was having some kind of heart problem and they were SO rude to her, and then they talked about her for the next half hour . I am sure the Dr's are too busy to realize what's going on up front, but it would be nice if they found out. When Eleanor is there, it isn't as bad though. The phones... Eh, they could be better, but the dr's and nurses are worth it all.
